tiny bets no. 06 ~ a total eclipse
We all have personal eclipses. (Inspired by the total lunar eclipse.)
another kind of eclipse
First off, apologies on this not arriving Friday. I went in to edit something, paused it, and forgot to turn it back on. 🙃
This tiny bets email is inspired by the total lunar eclipse that happened last week. [In Taurus, for those who have an eye on astrology.]
Whenever an astronomical (or celestial) event happens, it leaves me in awe. It reminds me that while we feel like “just” a brain/soul, stuck in a bag of bones, navigating this weird but fascinating thing called life, we’re surrounded by a greater universe where really fucking cool things happen.
In *the most simplistic terms* an eclipse is caused when one body is blocked, leaving it partially or fully hidden — either by the shadow of another body, or by another body passing in between it and the viewer’s eyes.
While this happens on a grand scale, I think we experience (or sometimes accidentally create) mini eclipses in our own lives that cause us to lose sight of things, or block us from achievement.
We shine so full of light in one area — our brain is lit up (in a good way), our soul is in alignment, our confidence is radiating. Then suddenly, the shadow rolls in. The “body” called fear/uncertainty (‘unfearty’…? if we wanna give it a fun, planetary name) eclipses the inner momentum we have.
We’re blocked. Stuck. The light is no longer there and the darkness creeps in.
And that in and of itself creates another cycle that can spiral us into taking action against our best interests.
But just like eclipses that happen way up there, many many miles from us, it’s important to remember that it’s just a moment in time.
Temporary movement.
What feels like an eternity does in fact have a beginning and an end, you just can’t see it when you’re in the middle.
What does this have to do with tiny bets?
tiny bets are the anchors that keep us tethered when we feel like we’re floating in the middle of a dark sea with no light 🔦 They keep us grounded in the present with an eye to the future, when everything else feels chaotic.
The tiny bets we make to and for ourselves can easily get swallowed by these inner eclipses, but often that’s the time when we need to stick with them the most.

tiny bets are all the small things you do that stack up over time to craft a reality you love. These memos are a mix of woo, science, philosophy, and thought experiments to help you feel inspired to show up for yourself and your work daily.
